In the early morning hours of August 17, 2024, Paul Newman, a 75-year-old male resident of Utica, New York, was sitting on his front porch, a place he had enjoyed for over 40 years. Tragically, this peaceful moment was shattered when an unknown individual fired several gunshots in the quiet neighborhood. One of these stray bullets struck Mr. Newman in the abdomen.
First responders were quickly on the scene, and he was transported to Wynn Hospital.
Initially, his injuries were not considered life-threatening. However, his condition took a turn for the worse, and despite undergoing multiple surgeries, Paul Newman succumbed to his injuries on August 18, 2024. His death, the result of a senseless act of gun violence, is being investigated by the Utica Police Department's Major Crimes Unit as a homicide.
The investigation into Paul Newman's death has led to an underage teenager facing charges related to the shooting. However, at this time, the teen has not been charged with homicide. Authorities believe the suspect to be a youth offender.
