On a late summer evening in Syracuse, New York, the life of 15-year-old Alexcia Lynch was tragically cut short. On Friday, August 30, 2024, at approximately 8:14 p.m., police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at 901 Madison Street. Arriving officers discovered Alexcia Lynch suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the female victim's death moved swiftly. The Syracuse Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division and Homicide Unit conducted numerous interviews and canvassed the neighborhood extensively. Their efforts, which included the execution of several search warrants, led to the identification of a 15-year-old male suspect. The day after the shooting, on August 31, 2024, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the Public Safety Building in Syracuse.
The suspect, later identified as JyQuest Williams, then 15, was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Following his arraignment, the juvenile suspect was remanded to the Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Facility. In April 2025, it was reported that Williams, then 16, admitted to the shooting death of Lynch and to opening fire on two other individuals that same night.
The community mourned the loss of Alexcia, who was a student entering the 10th grade at Henninger High School and was remembered as the 'life of the party.' Friends and family gathered for a vigil at the site of her death, releasing balloons in her memory. Alexcia's mother, Krystal Herndon, described her daughter as 'the laughter of our family' and spoke of the profound and lasting impact of her loss.
