In the Bronx, a 29-year-old man named Devonte Sorriano lost his life in a fatal shooting on Sunday, September 29, 2024. The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. at the corner of East 182nd Street and Mapes Avenue in the Belmont section of the borough. Sorriano was discovered with a single gunshot wound to his head.
According to police, the individual responsible for the shooting fled the scene on a bicycle. An investigation into the homicide led to the arrest of a suspect.
The man taken into custody was identified as Herman Gayle, a resident of Manhattan.
Gayle has since been charged with murder in connection with the death of Sorriano. Family and neighbors of the victim remembered him as a kind soul who was taken too soon. His death has been registered as a loss to gun violence.
