In the early morning hours of a summer Saturday in the Bronx, a life was tragically cut short. On July 14, 2018, Juan Flores, a 49-year-old man, was found unconscious and unresponsive inside the lobby of an apartment building at 2856 Webb Avenue in the Kingsbridge neighborhood. Police officers responding to a call around 7 a.m. discovered Flores, who was later pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital.
The investigation into the death of the male victim quickly led to a suspect.
Surveillance video from before the incident captured images of another man, who was later identified as 49-year-old Jose Quinones. The day after the fatal encounter, Quinones was taken into custody by the New York City Police Department.
Following his arrest, Jose Quinones was charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the death of Juan Flores. The motive for the deadly confrontation was reported to be a dispute involving an ex-girlfriend. Sources indicated that Quinones was the former partner of Flores's fiancée, suggesting a grim story of jealousy that culminated in a senseless act of violence.
