In the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn, a 15-year-old male named Malachi Deberry was fatally shot on the evening of Friday, October 25, 2024. Police responded to a call at 1145 Lenox Rd. around 8:42 p.m. and discovered the young man with gunshot wounds to his head.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and transported Malachi to Maimonides Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The incident was part of a string of gun violence that claimed the lives of multiple teenagers in New York City within a short period.
As of late October 2024, the New York City Police Department had not made any arrests in connection with the shooting. The investigation into the death of Malachi Deberry is ongoing as authorities continue to search for the person or persons responsible for this act of violence.
