In the heart of downtown St. Louis, on a Monday morning, the life of David Saldana, a 44-year-old man, was brought to a violent and public end. The tragic events of February 27, 2023, began to unfold with a dispute at a Shell gas station on Convention Plaza. An altercation between Saldana and another man, later identified as 23-year-old Deshawn Thomas, set in motion a fatal chain of events.
Following the initial confrontation, Thomas allegedly pursued Saldana across Tucker Boulevard.
