On the evening of September 14, 2024, police officers in St. Louis, Missouri, were dispatched to the Hyde Park neighborhood following reports of a shooting. Inside the vehicle, they found an unresponsive 31-year-old African American male in the driver's seat who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

The victim was identified as Stanley L. Fischer II, a resident of Fairview Heights, Illinois, who lived on the 200 block of Sheffield Court. While the initial inquiry by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department classified the incident as a suspicious death, the investigation was later intensified. On December 23, 2024, the Medical Examiner's Office officially ruled the manner of death a homicide, confirming that the fatal injury was an act of violence.
