In the early hours of March 19, 2023, a young life was tragically cut short in a residence in Saint Louis, Missouri. Bryce Birlew, a 16-year-old male, died from what was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The incident unfolded at approximately 2:45 a.m. in a home located in the 7800 block of Decatur Drive.
According to reports, the tragic event occurred while a 23-year-old man was showing off a firearm to Bryce and another juvenile who was present.
In the course of this display, the firearm discharged, leading to Bryce's fatal injury. The man who had been handling the weapon was subsequently taken into custody by law enforcement officials.
Following the initial investigation and the man's arrest, the case was presented to the St. Louis City Circuit Attorney's Office. However, prosecutors declined to file formal charges at that time, citing the need for a more thorough investigation by the police before proceeding. As a result, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Bryce Birlew's death remains open and ongoing.
In the wake of this devastating loss, Bryce's family, including his parents Curtis and Heather Birlew, and his siblings, held a memorial visitation to honor his memory on March 25, 2023.
