In the late hours of a Wednesday evening in Kansas City, Missouri, the sound of gunfire abruptly pierced the night, marking the tragic end for 28-year-old Deonta Words. On March 29, 2023, while in the vicinity of 13th Street and Highland Avenue on an unrelated matter, police officers heard the nearby shots. Their investigation led them to the 1300 block of Highland, where they found Words suffering from life-threatening injuries.
