On March 29, 2023, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Kansas City, Missouri, police officers were in the vicinity of 13th Street and Highland Avenue on an unrelated call when they heard gunfire nearby. Upon investigation, they discovered 28-year-old Deonta Words suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries over the following weekend.
