In the early morning hours of June 4, 2016, Marva L. Amrine, a 53-year-old Black female, was shot and killed in a double homicide in Kansas City, Missouri. The incident, which also claimed the life of her co-worker, 64-year-old Terrell K. Nance, unfolded around 4 a.m. in the 3800 block of Park Avenue as they were heading to their jobs as bus drivers for Kansas City International Airport.
Police were dispatched to the scene after reports of shots fired and discovered Amrine and Nance
inside a silver Fiat. The car doors were open, and investigators found more than 20 shell casings near the vehicle, indicating the victims were shot at close range. Both Amrine, an employee of the Kansas City Aviation Department, and Nance, a recent retiree from the department who was working for another company, were pronounced dead at the scene. Friends and co-workers remembered them as outgoing and friendly individuals who were like family to their colleagues. Amrine was a wife, mother of two, and grandmother of four.
In the wake of the shooting, authorities announced they were searching for a newer model black Jeep Wrangler-type vehicle with a black spare tire and a silver rim, which was seen leaving the area. It was believed that at least two individuals were inside the SUV. Law enforcement also investigated a possible connection to a double shooting that had occurred just two days prior at the same location, which was Nance's home.
Despite the ongoing investigation and pleas from Amrine's family for anyone with information to come forward, the case remains unsolved. The Kansas City Missouri Police Department lists the double homicide of Marva Amrine and Terrell Nance in its unsolved cases. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with their deaths. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest.
