On April 4, 2023, law enforcement officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 6400 block of Manchester Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, following reports of a shooting shortly before 1:00 a.m. Upon arrival, police discovered 56-year-old Keith Martin, a male, lying deceased in a hallway on the second floor of the building. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound, and authorities found a spent shell casing inside his apartment, the door of which had been left slightly ajar.
Witnesses at the scene identified the victim as 'Uncle Keith' and indicated that the violence stemmed from an earlier domestic dispute.
Investigation revealed that shortly before the shooting, Martin had ejected a woman from his residence, leading to tensions with her relatives. Surveillance footage from the Park Highlands Apartments captured two men, later identified as brothers, arriving at the complex and confronting Martin at his door. The suspects were identified as David L. Randall and Darren L. Randall. Following the confrontation and subsequent gunfire, the brothers were seen leaving the scene. Detectives later uncovered text messages indicating hostility between the parties and obtained jailhouse recordings in which David Randall instructed an associate to dispose of a firearm hidden in a shoebox.
David Randall was taken into custody the day after the murder during a traffic stop where he was initially arrested for drug possession. Both siblings were subsequently charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Court records indicate that the legal proceedings concluded for at least one of the defendants with a plea agreement. On June 30, 2025, a defendant in the case was sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action, with the terms set to run consecutively.
