On a Sunday in September, the life of 22-year-old Logan Minton was tragically cut short in what police believe began as an abduction in Kansas City, Missouri. The young man from Riverside was found fatally shot on September 18, 2016, near Armour Road and Knox Street in North Kansas City. Investigators have pieced together a harrowing narrative suggesting Minton was taken against his will in a robbery attempt.
It is believed the perpetrators were trying to get him to his apartment, thinking there was money there.
The events of that day unfolded as a terrifying ordeal for Minton. His family believes he was driven around in his own car by at least two individuals. In a desperate act of self-preservation, Minton attempted to escape his captors near a QuikTrip at Armour and Knox. It was at this moment that a fatal shot was fired from the backseat of the vehicle, ending his life. His car, a maroon 2005 Buick LeSabre with a distinctive Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats decal in the rear window, was taken by the assailants and was missing for several months before authorities eventually located it. Investigators hoped that DNA evidence recovered from the car might lead to a breakthrough in the case.
In the course of their investigation, police identified a person of interest, 19-year-old Zachary T. Murphy. While he was taken into custody on unrelated charges, authorities believed Murphy possessed information about the individuals responsible for Minton's death. However, he refused to cooperate with the investigation, leaving a potential avenue for justice unexplored.
Tragically, the thread of this lead was severed when Murphy himself was found shot to death on the front porch of an apartment building in North Kansas City in October 2017.
