Jayla Nicole Farr, a 21-year-old female, was fatally shot on the evening of May 2, 2023, in north St. Louis County. The incident occurred in the 10400 block of Halls Ferry Road, where a fight had broken out among several people outside a residence. When police arrived at approximately 9:30 p.m., they discovered Jayla deceased outside the home. Two other individuals, an 18-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy, were also injured in the shooting but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The altercation that led to the deadly shooting reportedly stemmed from disagreements over a high school prom party that had taken place the previous weekend. During the fight, which was described as involving young women, Jayla Farr reportedly told the gunman to put his weapon away, stating that it was a 'female fight.' Shortly after, he opened fire, striking and killing her. The shooter then fired multiple rounds toward the house where the fight was occurring.
In the days following the shooting, police identified 19-year-old Emonne Dillon as the suspect. He was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder, four counts of armed criminal action, and other related charges. In April 2024, a St. Louis County jury convicted Dillon of second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action.
Two months later, in June 2024, Emonne Dillon, then 20, was sentenced to a total of 41 years in prison for his role in Jayla Farr's death. The judge ordered the sentences for the various convictions to be served consecutively, ensuring a lengthy period of incarceration for the shooting that tragically cut short a young woman's life.
