The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 2:30 a.m., when Nakyah was fatally shot inside her home. Initial reports from the St. Louis County police indicated that the shooting appeared to be accidental. Further investigation revealed that Nakyah's 15-year-old brother was handling a firearm when it accidentally discharged, resulting in her death.
