On the evening of October 30, 2019, tragedy struck in the Academy/Sherman Park neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. Shanieka Maria Byrd, a 35-year-old female, was present in the parking lot of an AutoZone store located at 1215 North Kingshighway. Shortly after 9:00 p.m., police officers responded to a call regarding a shooting at that location. Upon arrival, first responders discovered Byrd and a 43-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital; Byrd was admitted in critical condition with unstable vital signs, while the male victim was listed in stable condition.
Despite medical efforts, Shanieka Maria Byrd succumbed to her injuries days later, passing away on November 2, 2019. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Division took charge of the investigation. At the time of the incident, authorities released a description of a suspect, identifying him as a man wearing a brown jacket and a black ski mask.
