On August 29, 2019, 39-year-old Lisa Georgieff was killed inside her residence in the Dutchtown neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. The incident occurred at an apartment located at 4108 Michigan Avenue, where Georgieff lived with another woman. According to reports from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, a man arrived at the apartment building and began kicking at the door until Georgieff answered. Upon opening the door, she was immediately shot in the chest by the intruder.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
The suspect identified by authorities was 30-year-old Anthony Liston of Velda City, Missouri. After shooting Georgieff, Liston reportedly entered the apartment and opened fire on a second victim, 34-year-old Kara Ball, shooting her in the head and groin. Ball was transported to a local hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. Police stated that during the violent encounter, Liston also struck a man in the face with the butt of his rifle. Following the shootings at the apartment, Liston fled the scene and attempted to carjack vehicles in a nearby parking lot on Cherokee Street, where he was eventually subdued by a group of workers until law enforcement arrived.
Investigation revealed that the shootings at the Michigan Avenue apartment were part of a broader crime spree that day. Authorities alleged that Liston had stolen a Jeep Cherokee earlier and driven to a gas station on Goodfellow Boulevard, where he shot a woman in the leg. Following his arrest, Liston was interviewed by homicide detectives and reportedly admitted to the killings. When asked for a motive regarding the shooting of Georgieff and Ball, he told investigators that he shot the women because he 'never felt welcome' at their apartment.
Anthony Liston was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder, multiple counts of armed criminal action, first-degree assault, attempted robbery, tampering with a motor vehicle, and property damage. The case highlighted a violent series of events that spanned multiple locations across the city, ending with the apprehension of the suspect by citizens and police.
