In the early evening of January 14, 2024, a dispute inside a Jennings, Missouri, convenience store tragically ended the life of 25-year-old Keila Buckner. A female, Buckner had arranged to meet a man at the New York Market & Liquor on Jennings Station Road to exchange firearms and cash.
Surveillance footage from inside the store captured the moments leading up to the fatal encounter.
Buckner and the man, later identified as 20-year-old Devin Macon, were seen talking near each other, both holding firearms. The situation escalated when Macon, after handing Buckner some cash, suddenly reached for her weapon. A struggle over Buckner's firearm ensued, causing it to discharge and strike the ground. In the midst of the struggle, Macon allegedly fired his own gun, striking Buckner in the spine.
After shooting Buckner, the suspect grabbed her firearm and fled the scene in a vehicle. Emergency services were called to the location at approximately 6:04 p.m., where they found Buckner suffering from at least one gunshot wound. She was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention but ultimately succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Following an investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department's Bureau of Crimes Against Persons, Devin Macon was identified as the suspect. He was later apprehended after a SWAT raid. On April 11, 2024, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office issued charges against Macon for second-degree murder and stealing a firearm. His bond was set at $750,000, cash only.
