On January 4, 2021, 22-year-old female Aire'onna JoyVonne Powers was fatally shot inside her residence in St. Louis, Missouri. Officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call regarding a shooting in the 4000 block of Arsenal Street, located in the Tower Grove South neighborhood. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered Powers suffering from gunshot wounds within the building. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators quickly identified a suspect, 63-year-old Stephen Davis, who lived on the same block as the victim. Following the discovery of Powers' body, police launched a search for Davis. He was subsequently located inside a vehicle miles away in the 7300 block of North Broadway, in the North Riverfront neighborhood near Calvary Cemetery. Davis was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, and a firearm was recovered at the scene.

The case was classified by authorities as an apparent murder-suicide. Due to the death of the suspect, no arrests were made, and no criminal trial was held in connection with Powers' death. Family members later remembered Powers, a mother of one, as a poet and musician who had attended Hazelwood East High School and was active in her church community.
