In the summer of 2023, the life of 16-year-old Adan Morales-Alvarado, a male resident of Kansas City, Missouri, was tragically cut short. On the evening of July 23rd, authorities responded to reports of a shooting in the 3700 block of East 8th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered the young man on the sidewalk, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The violence of that evening also claimed another young life.
A second teenager, 15-year-old Angel Macias, was found at the same location with critical injuries from the shooting. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Angel Macias succumbed to his injuries twelve days later, on August 4, 2023.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, investigators with the Kansas City Police Department began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the deaths of the two teenagers. Early in their investigation, law enforcement officials identified a person of interest and were reportedly in communication with prosecutors regarding the case.
