On July 24, 2023, at approximately 1 a.m., Kansas City, Missouri, police responded to a reported shooting near East 80th Street and Forest Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 36-year-old Demetrius Lanear lying in a grassy area along the roadway, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and other injuries. Lanear was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
