Duanna Johnson, a 40-year-old African American transgender woman, was found shot to death in North Memphis, Tennessee, on November 10, 2008. Johnson had become a well-known figure in the Memphis area after a video surfaced showing her being brutally beaten and pepper-sprayed by Memphis Police Department officers while in custody on charges of prostitution.
