The investigation
into her death quickly focused on a recent and tumultuous relationship. For about six months, Gladney had been involved with 43-year-old Joshua Banks. Their relationship soured and ultimately ended after Banks allegedly stole $900 from her bank account. In the time leading up to the fatal shooting, Banks had reportedly made serious threats against Gladney and her family, creating an atmosphere of fear. He had allegedly threatened to 'kill the entire family except for the children,' a chilling premonition of the violence to come.
On the day of the incident, the conflict escalated to a fatal confrontation. Banks reportedly confronted Gladney outside her apartment and shot her. Following the incident, the Memphis Police Department swiftly identified Banks as the suspect. He was subsequently arrested and is now facing a charge of second-degree murder in connection with Geneva M. Gladney's death. As the legal process began to unfold, a court set his bond at $400,000.
