In the summer of 2022, a life was tragically cut short in Memphis, Tennessee. Ramyra Jamison, a 19-year-old Black female, was killed on Thursday, August 4, 2022, a victim of gunfire. The events that led to her untimely death began with a heated argument that escalated into a violent shootout.
On that Thursday afternoon, police were called to the 2100 block of Whitney Avenue in the Frayser neighborhood. There, they discovered Jamison inside a Honda, having been fatally shot.
Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle speeding away from the 3400 block of Trezevant, where the sounds of gunfire had erupted moments earlier.
The investigation into Jamison's death quickly pointed to 18-year-old Dequan Huff. According to police reports, the incident began when Huff allegedly threatened a woman with a gun during an argument. That woman's brother confronted Huff, who then reportedly opened fire. The brother, after retrieving his own weapon, pursued Huff, who had gotten into his girlfriend's Honda with Jamison. As the two men exchanged gunfire, Jamison was struck and killed.
Following the incident, Dequan Huff was taken into custody and subsequently charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. During questioning, Huff reportedly admitted to his involvement in the shootout that led to Ramyra Jamison's death.
