In the Hickory Hill area of Memphis, Tennessee, a young life was tragically cut short on the afternoon of April 1, 2022. Mary Wallace, a 13-year-old girl, was found shot outside an apartment door at the Cedar Hill Apartments. Paramedics were called to the scene, but her injuries were too severe, and she was pronounced dead. The incident, which occurred around 1:45 p.m., sent shockwaves through the community.
The investigation into the young girl's death quickly pointed to a violent and
senseless act. Surveillance footage from the area showed several males fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting. Further investigation by the Memphis Police Department led them to a person of interest, 18-year-old Mikhael Thompson. After obtaining a search warrant, police arrested Thompson. During the arrest, several firearms were recovered, including one that was reported stolen in March of that year.
During questioning, Mikhael Thompson admitted to his involvement in the shooting. He confessed that the shooting was gang-related. Thompson was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and theft of property. The police affidavit revealed that shots were also fired into the apartment where three other people, including two juveniles, were present at the time of the incident. Investigators confirmed that one of the guns found in Thompson's possession was the weapon used in the murder of Mary Wallace.
