On a cold January evening in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 18-year-old Maresha Leajean Williams was tragically cut short. An African American female, Maresha was diligently working as a manager at the Dixie Queen restaurant on South Bellevue Boulevard on January 15, 2022. Her shift took a fatal turn following a dispute with two customers in the drive-thru.
The argument, seemingly minor at first, escalated when the two individuals, a man and a woman, drove away from the restaurant only
to return a short time later. In a senseless act of violence, multiple gunshots were fired from their vehicle into the establishment. Maresha was struck by the gunfire. Emergency services were called, and she was rushed to a nearby hospital, but her injuries proved to be fatal. She was remembered by her loved ones as a nurturing and honest person who cherished her family and friends.
The Memphis Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the homicide. The suspects were reported to have fled the scene in a dark-colored Nissan Versa. The vehicle had distinguishing features, including noticeable damage to the driver's-side front and rear doors and cardboard covering the driver-side window. The investigation led to the identification of 22-year-old Quandaryus House as a suspect.
A witness who was reportedly in the car with House at the time of the shooting came forward and identified him as the person who fired the shots into the Dixie Queen. Based on this information and other evidence gathered during the investigation, Quandaryus House was arrested and subsequently charged with the first-degree murder of Maresha Williams. While a description of a Black man in a black bubble coat was released, the details regarding the female suspect who was with House remained limited. The case continues to be a painful memory for the Memphis community, highlighting the devastating impact of gun violence.
