casual evening among acquaintances. Perkins was at a gathering with 69-year-old Calvin Johnson Sr., a man she considered a friend, and another individual. An argument over religion escalated, leading to a fatal confrontation. During the dispute, Perkins reportedly poured a drink on Johnson and slapped him. In response, Johnson retrieved a double-barreled shotgun and shot her in the abdomen. Perkins was unarmed at the time of the incident.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene in the 3100 block of Morningside Street in Frayser, they found Johnson on top of Perkins.
