In a tragic turn of events, 21-year-old Tashayla Johnson was found deceased in her apartment in the Raleigh area of Memphis, Tennessee, on January 9, 2017. She and a male companion, 29-year-old Jeremy Bryant, were both discovered with multiple gunshot wounds. The incident, which occurred in the 2800 block of Coach Drive, was quickly determined to be a homicide, launching an investigation into their untimely deaths.
The investigation led police to 37-year-old Jerry Pointer.
It was revealed that Pointer had a significant financial debt to both Johnson and Bryant, stemming from drug-related transactions over the previous year. In his own admission to investigators, Pointer stated he wanted to 'end my situation,' leading him to fatally shoot both individuals.
Following his confession, Jerry Pointer was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder. In a settlement approved by the victims' families and a Criminal Court Judge, Pointer pleaded guilty to the charges in November 2018. He was subsequently sentenced to 45 years in prison without the possibility of parole and agreed to waive his rights to appeal.
