In the spring of 2016, a senseless act of violence cut short the life of 18-year-old Tierney Reid in Memphis, Tennessee. A Black female, Tierney was known by loved ones as a sweet girl who was a friend to everyone. On the evening of April 10, 2016, she and her older sister, Melanie, were returning to their home in Southeast Memphis when they were ambushed by an unknown gunman who opened fire on them.
Both sisters were struck by the gunfire.
While Melanie was injured, she ultimately survived the attack. Tragically, Tierney succumbed to her injuries, collapsing in the hallway of their home. The shooting prompted an investigation by the Memphis Police Department, who urged the public to come forward with any information that might lead to the apprehension of the person responsible for Tierney's death.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement, the individual who shot Tierney and her sister has never been identified, and no arrests have been made in the case. The violent and sudden loss of Tierney was a profound tragedy for her family, which included her parents, four sisters, and a brother, and left a lasting impact on the community.
