In the early morning hours of September 26, 2015, in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 28-year-old Chasity Springfield was tragically cut short. Inside a residence on Lake Grove Street, she, along with Anthony Isom, 35, and Michael Glover, 34, were found shot to death. The discovery marked the beginning of a complex homicide investigation that would eventually lead to the identification and arrest of three individuals.
Responding to the scene, Memphis Police Department officers found a
grim tableau. Isom's body was discovered just inside the front door, which he appeared to be blocking. Glover's body was located in a closet in a rear bedroom, and Springfield's body was found partially out of a window in the same back room, suggesting a desperate attempt to escape the violence that had erupted within the home. Autopsies would later confirm that all three victims died from multiple gunshot wounds, ruling their deaths as homicides. Springfield sustained three gunshot wounds to her face, chin, and wrist.
The investigation into the triple homicide led authorities to Demarco Hawkins, Tony Thomas, and Laronda Turner. Hawkins was subsequently charged with three counts of first-degree murder. In a written statement to the police, he admitted to planning the murders and robbing the victims.
Further details of the tragic night emerged during the legal proceedings for Thomas and Turner, who were indicted on three counts of first-degree premeditated murder and tried jointly after their cases were severed from Hawkins's. According to testimony, Thomas chased Glover to a back bedroom and shot at him multiple times. Hawkins then discovered Springfield attempting to flee through a window and shot her. After Springfield fell to the floor, Turner, who had initially been waiting in a car, entered the room, asked if Springfield was dead, and after Hawkins replied that he 'guessed so,' took the gun from him and also shot Springfield.
