A street fight between children in a South Memphis neighborhood on March 14, 2024, escalated into a tragic altercation that resulted in the death of 39-year-old Tamara Plummer. The mother of four, who was also pregnant with her fifth child, was fatally shot during the dispute on Quinn Avenue.
The incident reportedly began when adult males, including 42-year-old Je'On Davis, brought their children to Plummer's residence to engage in a fight with her children.
As the conflict intensified and adults became involved, Plummer was seen with a handgun. Witnesses stated she intended to fire the weapon into the air to disperse the crowd. At that moment, Davis approached her and shot her multiple times at close range. Plummer was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Following the shooting of her mother, Plummer's 20-year-old daughter, Destiney Plummer, allegedly picked up a firearm and fired in Davis's direction, injuring him and two other people. Davis was arrested and subsequently charged with first-degree murder and possession of a handgun as a convicted felon. He had a prior conviction for aggravated battery in Kansas. Destiney Plummer was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and was later released on a $5,000 bond.
Video of the incident, which circulated on social media, showed Davis retrieving a gun from his vehicle before shooting Tamara Plummer. Davis initially told investigators that someone in the crowd had handed him the weapon. In February 2025, a Shelby County Grand Jury indicted Je'On Davis on charges of voluntary manslaughter and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, a reduction from the initial first-degree murder charge. He was released from jail in May 2024 after posting a $30,000 bond.
