In the bright, late morning hours of a Memphis Sunday, the life of 15-year-old Denisha D'Asia Pittman was tragically cut short. On June 11, 2023, Pittman and an 18-year-old companion, Kentavion Dancy, were in the 6000 block of Valleydale Drive in the southeast part of the city when gunfire erupted. Both teenagers were struck multiple times and succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The brazen daylight shooting sent shockwaves through the community, leaving friends and family to mourn the sudden and violent loss of two young lives.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly painted a picture of a calculated attack. Witnesses reported seeing four individuals, clad in red hoodies and ski masks, fleeing the scene in a red Lexus immediately after the shooting. For months, the case progressed with few public developments. Then, on April 10, 2024, the Memphis Police Department announced a significant breakthrough with the arrest of 17-year-old Alvin Davis. His arrest was the culmination of a nearly year-long investigation into the deaths of Pittman and Dancy.
Following his arrest, Alvin Davis was indicted by a Shelby County Grand Jury on November 25, 2024. He faces two counts of first-degree murder for his alleged role in the killings of the two teenagers. Davis is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail on a $250,000 bond as he awaits further legal proceedings. While one suspect is in custody, the investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to search for the three other individuals believed to be involved in the shooting.
