In a tragic turn of events stemming from what authorities believe to be a domestic dispute, 22-year-old Daja Halliburton, a female resident of Memphis, Tennessee, lost her life. On the evening of April 3, 2024, a shooting occurred in the 5300 block of Plover Drive in the Northaven area of north Shelby County. Halliburton was critically injured in the incident and rushed to Regional One Health for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital the following day, April 4, 2024. The shooting also left two men with injuries, one in non-critical condition and the other with minor injuries.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office quickly responded to the scene and detained a person of interest. Their investigation pointed to the shooting being a domestic-related incident. Following their inquiries, detectives arrested 21-year-old Isaiah Agnew in connection with the fatal shooting. He has since been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault/reckless, tampering with evidence, and violation of bond conditions.
Further investigation revealed a history of domestic violence between Agnew and Halliburton. In September 2023, Halliburton had accused Agnew of beating and punching her in the presence of their 10-month-old daughter. As a result of this prior incident, Agnew was indicted on July 9, 2024, for a domestic assault case involving Halliburton. Following the shooting, Agnew was indicted on charges of reckless homicide, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, and violating a protection order. He is currently being held in jail on a total bond of $300,000.
