In what began as a domestic dispute, a woman lost her life in a fatal shooting on the evening of Monday, February 16, 2026, in a Southeast Shelby County apartment complex. The victim was identified as 32-year-old Leah Carnes. The incident, which took place at the Centennial Gardens Apartments, has left the community in a state of shock.
