A domestic dispute in a Northeast Memphis home escalated into a tragic shooting, claiming the life of 43-year-old Alice Williams and a 10-year-old girl. The incident, which unfolded in the early morning hours of October 13, 2022, also left a 19-year-old woman critically injured. The female victim's life was cut short in what authorities have described as an act of domestic violence.
The events that led to the fatal shooting began with an argument between 21-year-old Allante McAfee and
his girlfriend's 19-year-old sister. Neighbors later recounted to reporters that they had witnessed previous domestic disputes at the residence involving one of the young women and her boyfriend, with police having been called to the home on prior occasions.
During the altercation, McAfee reportedly brandished a handgun. Alice Williams, the mother of the young women, stepped in to intervene and de-escalate the situation. According to police reports, McAfee claimed to have 'blacked out' and did not intend to shoot Williams or the 10-year-old, identified as Mandia Shanbanka. He allegedly fired multiple shots, striking his girlfriend's sister in the back.
Following the shooting, McAfee flagged down responding officers and confessed to the crime, stating, 'I did it.' He was taken into custody at the scene. Allante McAfee has since been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and reckless endangerment for his role in the deaths of Alice Williams and Mandia Shanbanka, and the critical injury of the third victim.
