On a Sunday morning in the wetlands of the Ted Shanks Conservation Area near Ashburn, Missouri, a day of camaraderie and sport turned into a tragedy. Eighteen-year-old Trent William Henry Busch, a high school senior from Winfield, was duck hunting with a group of friends on December 10, 2023, when he was fatally shot. The incident was reported to have been an accident, with a member of his own hunting party firing the shot that ended his life.
