In the waning hours of a Monday evening in Saint Louis, Missouri, the life of 26-year-old Jermaine West-Jones was tragically cut short. On September 11, 2017, the young Black / African American man was standing with three other individuals in the 5700 block of Saloma Avenue when an unknown male suspect approached the group. Without warning, the assailant opened fire, striking West-Jones in the chest and leg before quickly fleeing the scene.
Despite immediate efforts to save him, he succumbed to his multiple gunshot wounds at the location of the attack.
The Berkeley Police Department, with the assistance of the St. Louis County Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Bureau, launched a homicide investigation into the violent incident. However, the motive behind the shooting remains elusive to law enforcement officials. Witnesses described the perpetrator as a Black male, but his identity has not been determined in the years following the fatal encounter. The case grew cold, leaving a community in sorrow and a family grasping for answers.
To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Jermaine West-Jones, and the investigation remains open. Law enforcement has consistently urged the public to come forward with any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the unsolved case. Remembered by his family and friends as a kind and outgoing person, West-Jones's sudden death left a void in the lives of those who knew him, including his loving mother, father, fiancée, and young son. His loved ones continue to hope for justice as the search for the person responsible for his death continues.
