Chelsea Williams, 31, a Black female, died on December 26, 2023, after being shot in Kansas City, Missouri. Just after 9 p.m., police were alerted to a shots-fired call near East 25th Street and Myrtle Avenue, in the 2500 block of Myrtle. When officers arrived, they found signs that violence had erupted at a residence, but the injured victim was already gone—rushed away by a family member in a desperate attempt to beat the clock.
Along the drive to the hospital, the family member
called 911 for help. Emergency crews met the vehicle at a secondary location and took over transport, racing the rest of the way under flashing lights. Despite medical efforts, Williams died at the hospital within hours, and the case was turned over to homicide detectives, who returned to Myrtle Avenue to process the scene and begin piecing together what happened.
In the immediate aftermath, authorities did not publicly describe the circumstances that led to the shooting, and early reports did not name a suspect or outline a motive.
