In the early hours of a cold Saturday in St. Louis, Missouri, the life of Kerry Carter, a 49-year-old Black/African American man, was tragically cut short. On January 27, 2024, first responders were called to the intersection of South 7th Street and Chouteau Avenue, just south of the downtown area. There, they discovered an SUV that had crashed into a light pole.
Inside the vehicle was Carter, who was initially believed to be the victim of a simple traffic accident.
Upon closer examination, however, a more grim reality came to light. Emergency personnel found that Carter had sustained a gunshot wound to his head. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injury proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The incident, which at first appeared to be a car crash, was now being investigated as a homicide by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
As of now, the investigation into Kerry Carter's death remains active and ongoing. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the case, and no arrests have been made.
