On June 18, 2020, tragedy struck in the North St. Louis neighborhood near Fairground Park, claiming the life of Damonte McClendon, a 17-year-old Black male. The incident unfolded in the early morning hours, casting a shadow over the community. Around 12:45 a.m., police officers were summoned to the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Clay Avenue following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, first responders discovered a chaotic scene where a young life had been abruptly cut short.
