On February 26, 2024, at approximately 7 p.m., Kansas City police responded to reports of gunfire near the 5100 block of Hickory Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered 28-year-old Mauliek Taylor unresponsive beside a vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Emergency medical services pronounced Taylor dead at the scene.
Investigations revealed that Taylor had arranged to meet 26-year-old Tyler D. Thompson for a drug transaction involving marijuana and possibly Percocet pill
