Michael Alan Lorthridge, Jr., a 40-year-old male, tragically lost his life on June 11, 2019, in Kansas City, Missouri. The events that led to his untimely death unfolded in the evening at a residence in the southern part of the city. He was a beloved father of five children and was known for his dedication to his family.
On that fateful evening, Kansas City police were called to a home on 118th Terrace following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr.
Lorthridge and a female victim, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The female victim, who was the suspect's girlfriend and Mr. Lorthridge's sister, informed the police that her boyfriend had been arguing with her brother before he opened fire. Even in his final moments, Mr. Lorthridge was able to identify his shooter to a witness before being transported from the scene.
The individual responsible for the shooting was identified as Germon Deangelo Stevens. After the shooting, Stevens fled the scene in a gray or silver Cadillac, which was later found wrecked and abandoned a short distance away. Authorities immediately began a search for Stevens, who was considered armed and dangerous. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, first-degree domestic assault, third-degree domestic assault, and two counts of armed criminal action.
Germon D. Stevens was eventually apprehended and stood trial for his crimes. In an August bench trial, where he waived his right to a jury, Judge J. Dale Youngs found him guilty of second-degree murder, first-degree domestic assault, third-degree domestic assault, and two counts of armed criminal action. For these convictions, a Jackson County judge sentenced Stevens to a total of 49 years in prison. The sentences for the murder and one of the armed criminal action counts were ordered to run consecutively, as were the sentences for the first-degree domestic assault and the other armed criminal action charge. The two sets of sentences, however, will run concurrently. An additional four-year sentence for third-degree domestic assault will run consecutively to all other sentences.
