In the quiet community of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, the life of 45-year-old Matthew Wilkerson was abruptly cut short on a Tuesday in early March. On March 5, 2024, Wilkerson was fatally shot, a violent end to what was otherwise an ordinary day. The male victim's death quickly launched a homicide investigation by the Butler County Sheriff's Office, sending ripples of concern through the small city.
