In the early morning hours of a Friday in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, a violent encounter in an apartment on Cynthia Street tragically ended the life of Donald Perry. The 38-year-old white male from Sedgewickville was discovered by police who had responded to the residence, having been shot multiple times. He was immediately transported to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for treatment of his severe injuries.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Perry succumbed to his wounds and passed away later that afternoon on Friday, April 17, 2015.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to the identification and arrest of two individuals in connection with the homicide. Walter L. Currie Jr., a 21-year-old from the nearby town of Broseley, and 24-year-old Patricia Bales of Poplar Bluff were taken into custody by the Poplar Bluff Police Department. Following their arrests, charges were filed against both suspects.
Currie was formally charged with second-degree murder for his alleged role in the death of Donald Perry. Bales faced a more extensive list of charges, including second-degree murder, second-degree assault, and armed criminal action. Additionally, she was charged with tampering with physical evidence, suggesting an attempt to conceal or alter evidence related to the crime. A further charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon was also brought against Bales, indicating a prior criminal record that prohibited her from legally owning a gun.
