In the early morning hours of March 9, 2024, a dispute inside a Kansas City home escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 29-year-old Steven R. Mentzer. The male victim was at his residence in the 7300 block of Park Road, a home he shared with a co-worker and his boss, when the incident occurred. Police were dispatched to the scene around 5:30 a.m. and discovered two men who had been shot.
Mentzer was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other man, his roommate, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
According to family members who spoke with law enforcement and Mentzer's boss, an argument had broken out among several people at the house. It is believed that Mentzer was not initially involved in the altercation but was attempting to de-escalate the situation and quiet everyone down when he was tragically shot five times in the back.
