In the early morning hours of March 30, 2024, the life of 25-year-old Amora 'MoMo' Brown was tragically cut short in the Tower Grove East neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. A Black/African American female, Brown was summoned to an apartment in the 3300 block of Arsenal Street amidst a domestic dispute. The argument involved Jazzmyn Watford, 25, and her girlfriend, whom Watford had physically assaulted over accusations of infidelity.
Upon her arrival at approximately 3:51 a.m., Brown
found her friend injured outside the apartment and went to confront Watford. During the ensuing confrontation, the apartment's door latch was broken, and Watford fatally shot Brown. Responding officers found Brown with gunshot wounds to her chest and arm. She was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
Watford was arrested at the scene and was initially charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and second-degree domestic assault. In December 2024, Watford entered into a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of voluntary manslaughter and third-degree domestic assault. Following the plea deal, she was sentenced to seven years in prison for manslaughter with a concurrent four-year term for domestic assault. The resolution of the case brought little solace to Brown's loved ones, who remembered her as a vibrant and compassionate person who died trying to protect a friend.
