On May 10, 2024, 29-year-old Sha’Rone Spates was fatally shot near St. Louis City Hall. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of 14th and Market streets, adjacent to the old municipal courthouse. This area had become a gathering spot for a small group of homeless individuals who lived in tents and others who congregated to socialize and sell various goods.
