On April 16, 2024, a violent sequence of events unfolded at a QuikTrip gas station in the 10700 block of West Florissant Avenue in Ferguson, Missouri, resulting in the death of 26-year-old Detarius Haynes. At approximately 1:30 a.m., Haynes arrived at the convenience store in a white Ford Escape accompanied by 18-year-old Joshua Campbell. Both men entered the store to make purchases before returning to the vehicle. Haynes, who was driving, then moved the SUV to the gas pumps and stopped.
