On the night of May 26, 2016, law enforcement officials in Bellefontaine Neighbors, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri, were alerted to a violent incident in a residential neighborhood. At approximately 12:45 a.m., police officers responded to a distress call regarding a shooting in the 1200 block of Kilgore Drive. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a 29-year-old Black male, Jerome Keith Williams, collapsed on the front lawn and porch of a home.
He was suffering from at least one gunshot wound and was described as barely breathing when authorities reached the scene.
Emergency medical personnel immediately attended to the victim, transporting him to a nearby hospital for urgent trauma care. Despite the life-saving efforts attempted during transport and upon arrival at the medical facility, Williams succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Preliminary investigations by detectives suggested that the shooting had occurred on the street, specifically between Coburg Lands Drive and Ashbrook Drive, and that Williams had managed to flee to a nearby residence to seek help before collapsing.
The Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department subsequently requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis to lead the homicide investigation, utilizing additional resources to canvass the area and interview potential witnesses. Detectives worked to piece together the events leading up to the gunfire in the quiet residential area. Despite these efforts and the involvement of regional investigators, official reports from the Major Case Squad have listed the suspects in the case as unknown. As of the available public records, no arrests have been made, and the investigation into the circumstances of his death has not yielded a named perpetrator.
