On the morning of July 3, 2024, a violent domestic disturbance unfolded at the Ethans Apartments in the Northland area of Kansas City, Missouri. Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Northwest 80th Terrace around 6:00 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, first responders entered the residence to discover the unresponsive body of 27-year-old male Christopher Lamar Henderson Sr., who had sustained critical gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate efforts to render aid and a subsequent transport to a local hospital for emergency treatment, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The investigation quickly focused on a person of interest who had been seen fleeing the apartment immediately after the shots were fired. Law enforcement officials established a perimeter and located the suspect walking nearby, detaining him without further incident. Detectives determined that a heated argument or physical altercation had taken place inside the apartment between the victim and the suspect, escalating until a firearm was discharged.
Authorities identified the suspect as 35-year-old Jaymes D. Henderson. Court records and online databases indicated that the alleged shooter and the victim were likely brothers. Following the investigation, Clay County prosecutors formally charged Jaymes Henderson with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. A judge set his bond at $1 million. Reports noted that the accused had a prior criminal history, including a 2014 conviction for burglary, as well as past charges for attempted burglary and violations of protection orders.
