In a tragic turn of events on a Saturday afternoon, 22-year-old David C. Cromwell, a male, lost his life in a shooting in the Pendleton Heights neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri. The incident, which occurred on August 17, 2024, also left another man injured.
Reports from that day indicate that at approximately 4:15 p.m., police were called to the 300 block of Maple Boulevard following alerts of gunshots being fired into a vehicle.
By the time officers arrived, the car that had been targeted had already left the scene.
A short time later, another call directed law enforcement to a different location, near Smart and Bales in the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood. There, they discovered the vehicle from the earlier shooting and two men who had sustained gunshot wounds. David C. Cromwell was found unresponsive inside the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, who had managed to get out of the vehicle, was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
In the wake of the shooting, which was officially ruled a homicide, detectives identified subjects of interest in the case. Law enforcement has been collaborating with prosecutors to review evidence, which could potentially lead to arrests and the filing of criminal charges.
